I studied abroad in the summer before my senior year of college in Schmalkalden, Germany. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of amazing food available there. Unfortunately, I was a vegetarian at the time, so I didn’t try any meat or seafood. How sad because my school was in the Thuringian Forest, where Thuringian sausage, or Thüringer Rostbratwurst originates. They were basically all-you-could-eat for a month. This unique sausage has protected geographical indication status under European Union law.
